Why Bulgaria:
Bulgaria is an untapped holiday resource, with extreme beauty and diversity unknown to the common world. The cost of living is extremely cheap. Bulgaria seems to have it all – uncrowded ski resorts, sandy beaches, art and architecture, and all required activities and villages brimming with character and culture. Thus making it ideal for holiday makers and tourists.
The two major attractions are the Black Sea Coast in the summer and skiing in the winter.
The mountain ranges - Stara Planina, Rila and Rodopi - also offer spectacular settings for hikers and climbers. The major ski resorts, Bansko, Borovets and Mount Vitosha are all located on the southern outskirts of the bustling capital, Sofia.
From about mid-December to mid-April, Bulgaria’s ski slopes are usually covered with plenty of thick snow and the costs are substantially lower than almost anywhere else.
Bulgaria has had a rich and colourful history. Even if you’re not religious, you are likely to be impressed by the country’s 160 monasteries. History enthusiasts are bound to be excited by the remnants of the mix of ancient cultures in this one country with Roman amphitheatres, Thracian tombs and Turkish fortresses.
The Weather:
Bulgaria has a temperate climate with cold, damp winters and hot, dry summers.
The Rodopi Mountains form a barrier to the Mediterranean warmth of the Aegean, while the Danube Plain is open to the extremes of central Europe.
Sofia has a generally favourable climate with average daily highs of 28°C in July and August and 3°C from December to February. Rainfall is highest in the mountains and heavy snowfalls are a feature of winter.
Along the Black Sea coast, this is very popular with holidaymakers, average January temperature ranges between 1°C and 6°C, and between 19°C and 30°C in July.
Bulgaria has been a secret holiday destination to the Russians during the period of the old Soviet Union, but in the more recent years the country has embraced change for modernisation, joined the NATO, allied with the west and gained entry into the European Union.
All of these along with the fact that it is within 3 hours of flying time from Europe making it a very popular holiday destination for western tourists.
Great food, music, culture and folklore
